Winter Art Camp: Wearable Art

Get inspired by modern art and create your own wearable art.  Famous artists' works like Picasso’s Three Musicians or Van Goghs' Starry Night will flow across a new canvas messenger bag, in addition to other up-cycled clothing and accessories of your choice!

Learn how to “draw from life” painting on a three dimensional surface instead of a stretched canvas. Experiment with different surface design techniques using a variety of paints and graffiti markers. Add details such as make your own patches and recycled plastic mini masterpiece zipper pulls and jewelry.

Students will be given a satchel to decorate, and are encouraged to bring a favorite jacket, dress, shirt or pants to transform into a wearable masterwork!

When: Monday-Friday, February 19-23, 9am-Noon each day

Summer Art Camp 2018

The Schweinfurth Art Center holds week-long art camps for four weeks in July and August (Monday-Friday).  We hold two sessions every morning each week, one for ages 6-10, and one for ages 11-16.  We hold afternoon sessions (1-4pm) during Weeks 2 & 4 for ages 11-16. Those two weeks students aged 11-16 are able to sign up for morning and/or afternoon sessions; if they sign up for both, they can bring a bag lunch and stay all day.

Each week includes a variety of projects, often focusing on a theme, and a range of mediums, from ceramics to painting to collage to fiber art. Camps for older students include more advanced techniques and often focus on one or two mediums. Details of each week will be announced in March if not before.

Dates for 2018 will be as follows:

Week 1 - July 16-20
Week 2 - July 23-27
Week 3 - July 30-August 3
Week 4 - August 6-10
